A general election was held on 25 February 2022 to elect 150 members to the 17th Parliament of the United Kingdom. Prior to the election, on 15 January 2022, the Progressive Workers Party merged into the Labour Party, reducing the amount of major parties to contest the election to 5. The Labour Party fielded the most amount of candidates at 49 candidates, with Solidarity behind them at 42 candidates. The Independent Groupings of the Northern Ireland Independence Party, Freedom and Liberty Party and The Independent Grouping, as well as the Independent TheTrashMan_10 contested the election.
